Driven to Espresso: Drive-through Coffee Stands in the Northwest

If you think coffee culture is cool, you have come to the right place. I have loads of information and opinions to share about espresso in the Pacific Northwest, especially the drive-through phenomenon.

All aboard for espresso in Salem

On my trip to Bend, Eureka, and Salem, I found Coffee In Motion in Salem. According to the barista, the upper level will eventually be open to customers. I also photographed drive-thrus in Madras, Redmond, Prineville, and Sisters.

Portland trip

I traveled to Portland in early February (thanks for putting me up, Evan and Sheri!!) to visit art galleries as well as to shoot drive-throughs. Although the weather was horrible for photography, I did have a few brief moments of bright light (I'm not sure I'd go so far as to say sunshine!). Dutch Brothers has a large chain of drive-throughs in the western states with over 100 locations. This is one of their smaller designs. Personally, I prefer the smaller drive-through buildings because I think they look more distinctive from all the larger retailers and restaurants around them. I suppose some baristas may feel cramped inside the teeny ones, though. In any case, I am sure it won't be long before the majority of them will be replaced with large, tall buildings and the small ones will fade away.

I just returned from a trip to Bend, Eugene, and Salem, Oregon, and will post a photo from that trip soon.
